The meaning of “Au Revior”

Published Wednesday, 15 May 2013 by sydneysunnyray

When taught simple French, goodbye is simply “au revoir”.

Top Left-My cutsew from Angelic Pretty // Top Right – My birthday present from Angelic Pretty //  Bottom Left- Hugs with Emilie // Bottom Right – Hugs with Rosalynn *All Photos from Rosalynn*

After the Angelic Tea Party, I felt like changing after the tea party. I wanted to be more comfortable at the end of the day. I talked with Rosalynn and Emilie. I know if we lived closer we would good friends. I felt like I’ve known them more than just 2 days! We said our goodbyes and parted. You can see the pain in my face as the hour drew closer to my plane ride back home. I walked to the Opera to met friends for dinner. I ate all day…

My last views of Paris as I walked with friends.

Marine, Marine, and Yumi found me, and we searched for a place to eat. Around the Opera there is a surprising amount of Asian restaurants! I think we ate a noodle restaurant. I chose a kimchi noodle plate. “Miam miam!”

My beautiful friends.

We walked back to the Opera. We just stood there and looked at each other on the steps of the Opera. We wrapped our arms around each other. Our noses became red, our eyes water, and we hugged tight. Surprisingly, we laughed too. Our words were not goodbye. The French never say goodbye.

My last view of my friends before I turned my back.

The French say:

A Bientot” – See You Soon
A Demain” – See You Tomorrow
Bonne Journee / Soiree / Nuit” – Good day/ Even / Night
Bonsoir” – Good night
Salut” – See Ya

When The French do say “Good Bye” it is – “Au Revoir”. However, this means “to see again”.  “Voir” means “to see” and “re-” means “again”.
The only word close to “Good Bye” is “Adieu” – “To See You With God”

My favorite part of French is the lack of “Good Bye” the language. Merci.

This is an ode of “Au Revoir”  to my friends I met and shared my studying abroad experience. I cried (openly or privately) when I parted from them. We never said “Good Bye” – only words in French and kisses on the cheek.
Vasilisa – My Russian sister of Amiens, I love you so much. I miss you. I will visit your wonderful country one day!
Agathe and My Family – I can never repay your kindness during Christmas. My French greatly improved with just a short stay with you. I will miss you every Christmas forever.
Marine and Marine- My Sisters, you took me under your wings. You showed me everything in France! You are my beautiful twin friends.
Karima– My Sister, your astounding english taught me so must French. You have such a warm heart!
YumiMy Yumi, My sister from Japan, You are so sweet. I miss your hugs, kind eyes and laughs. Thank you for answering my many questions about Japanese culture.
Mme Patricia and Marine’s Family – I will never be able to repay your kindness. I learned so much about France with you.
Rosalynn– My blogger sister, if only we had more time. You are so sweet and pure. I love watching you grow confident! Sing loud, dear!
Emilie – I admire you and your art! I am so glad I met you!
Samantha – I never thought I would meet you. You are the Princess of Fashion Blogs! You are always so kind to me.
Megu – You are a beautifulv, wonderful, girl! You are strong, cute, and fun. I look up to like a big sister! Forever 17!
Claire– Your smile always helped me feel better.  You gave me a complaint, which I will  always keep close to my heart.

Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Paris– You stole all my money, but you keep it. You let me find amazing friends and people that I would never have found on my own. Thank you forever!

Parents– Thank you for your support. You always support my dreams. “Ya”ll” are my home
Friends in the States – Because of you, I grew happy to be living in the middle of nowhere again. Thanks!

I met so many people and did so much.
But, life continues, does it not? That is why I’ve not been able to post. With so much school stress finally over, I am able to rest.

Yet, only for a little time!
YES! I am returning to Europe (leaving this week). I will travel by sea with my mom’s best friend to Spain and Southern France. I am her traveling buddy! She does not fly, and I have plenty of time to be at sea and land. She was kind enough to  plan a stop in Paris! I will see some of my dear friends!

There is no “Good Bye”s in French.

Angelic Pretty Paris Tea Party – 2012

Published Monday, 13 May 2013 by sydneysunnyray

The Vedome Column at Place Vendome

After the Lolita Convention I was whipped away on the subway to the magical land of Angelic Pretty. Angelic Pretty’s tea party was hold at the Ritz Hotel.  The Ritz sits at Place Vendome, which is home to famous expensive stores. The Ritz is not for the faint hearted. This is a 5 star hotel, famous, and Princess Diana fled to her death from here.

Hotel Ritz Paris

I was so excited to place my little pink feet inside such a famous and exclusive hotel. The Ritz is under construction at the moment till summer 2014.

The Tea Room

Lolitas in poofy petticoats were directed into a stunning room. The room glowed with chandeliers, the walls covered with romantic paintings, the carpet and ceiling full of gold swirls, and the full length windows open to a wonderful garden. Sadly, I do not remember the name of this room.

Tea, please

‘R’ for chocolate

Soon the room filled up with girls. everyone was given a number for a best dress contest. We were told to talk, take picture, and to have drinks or chocolate. Every girl was like a princess.
I felt a bit out-of-place. My style is not the over-the-top-sweet lolita style that Angelic Pretty is known for. To tell you the truth, I felt a lot out-of-place. I was very emotional this day because it was the end of my journey in France. I felt overwhelmed. I enjoy more looking back at the tea party, then when I was there. I felt horribly sad at the time, but happy!

Anyways back to the tea party!

Maki and Asuka

The hosts, Maki and Asuka, entered in all their glory! I was breathless by them. They were perfect little dolls in the newest Angelic Pretty collection. Their outfits were classical but pastel.  Their makeup was flawless too. I tried to take close up pictures of their makeup.

Me with Asuka and Maki

Not only were they pretty, they were nice. They went to every girl and talked with them, as best as they could. They also stopped for pictures when ever asked. I felt bad that they could not relax!

And Picture of Maki, me, and Asuka when I left.

I sat away to drink some tea. I watched others take pictures. I became strangely shy and nervous. I asked no one for pictures and no one asked for mine. Then Asuka came to me. She said that she like my skirt. I was flabbergasted! My skirt was very old school. (I found it cheap second-hand in France. My favorite Angelic Pretty skirt was at home in the USA! ) Asuka pointed at it and said it was old and rare. Then she said that she had the same skirt.
At once a “cheap” Angelic Pretty skirt became gold.
Also, she was happy to see my pink “BearFace” pouch!

Chocolate Rosette

As for the new collection, Angelic Pretty displayed the new Chocolate Rosette. The designers described the new collection as a bit different and English inspired.

Fruit Cake

Fruit Cake, Chocolate Cake, and Birthday Cake

I found the new collection beautiful and yummy.
There was plenty of chocolate and sweets for all to eat! I will not try to explain the taste of the wonderful cakes. The pictures of food porn can honor you with delight!

Happy Birthday!

At one point, the host called out names. I was one of the few names. We all stood in a line in the front. Then a cake that was on fire came in the room, and it was for our birthdays! My birthday was about 2 weeks before the tea party, so I was completely surprised!  I was given a little gift -a pony cell phone charm. I adore it.

Winner for Best Dressed

Also, I want to present the winner of the contest- “Marijke Wilms”. She has always been nice to me! She is also starting a wonderful store- Rose Trianon.

I had a lot of fun. Many dreams came true that day!

Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Paris Summer 2012 Tea Party

Published Saturday, 13 October 2012 by Sydney Sunny

The last 3 days in Paris and France were very stressful but amazing. At the end of June and the first week of July, I was cleaning and packing to return to the USA. It was hard to close my life over there and to pack my small suitcases. I can not explain all of the process, but the stress of it all was very rewarding. I left my cleaned room in Amiens and arrived in Paris for 3 days with friends!

My outfit: Pink Dessert OP// Everything Baby, the Stars Shine Bright but my wrist cuffs// Credit to Yumi

My Baby rose necklace with matching rose bracelet, and rose ring resting against my lacy pink dress.

The first day I went to Baby, the Stars Shine Bright’s Tea Party. I woke up early in the morning of July 7th because of the excitement! I dolled up in the hotel and left in baby pink! I was wearing platform pink shoes and had no where to hide, but I held my curly head up head in the metro till I traveled to the store to meet some friends before the tea party. I was the first to arrive. I talked with the store owner, M. Sawada, and looked around. I bought a few presents for my friends and a huge silver Baby ring. Then, my friends began to arrive.

Sweet Yumi in her blue dress resting in the store.

I don’t know who arrived when and how but people began to pour in as time went on till the store closed. First, Yumi arrived. She is my cute friend from Japan studying in Paris. She arrived in a newly bought blue dress that I absolutely adore on her. (If only my arms were shorter or the sleeves longer…) She and I were all smiles and hugs to be together! We met at Baby’s Tea Party in February, and I have cherished every moment with her so much! So, it was a special time for me to be with her again.

Then, I saw Rosalynn from Lolita Wonderland through the store’s window. I have followed and adored her blog for a while. She and I became close during my stay in Europe on Facebook chat. I have no idea how we started to talk or became friends. We were always talking and messaging each other. When the tea party tickets were announced, she and I both had our fingers crossed. This was a moment when our worlds could come together and meet! And, here we were meeting each other in person! We hugged and were very happy to touch. Rosalynn is such a sweetheart! She is just as her blog portrays her- a sweetheart in love with lolita! I was so happy to meet her, and without this Tea Party I would have never met her! Sadly, on my return to the USA we chat very little because of school and the time difference!

And also, I met Emilie! She and I met at the last tea party where we both shared our loves for the colors yellow and pink! She is adorable, and I always adored her outfits! She is very clever with her outfits too! One might say, I am a secret admirer of her many talents! Plus, she is a great artist.

Tasty, delightful, colorful, sushi waiting for us to eat it.

Soon- too soon- the store closed. This was my last visit since then to Baby, the Stars Shine Bright. So, Yumi took me to an authentic tiny sushi restaurant. She said the sushi tasted truer to the sushi in Japan; however, my taste buds are not sensitive! We had a great time talking and eating. Yumi even treated me to sake! She was surprised I liked it. Oh my! After our lunch, we had time to walk over to the Tea Party at Le Grand Hotel next to the Opera.

I was twirling in the empty tea room.

Yumi and I took the back entrance to the hotel. We both took this entrance when we came to the Anniversary Tea Party in February. We thought we were late. There were no other girls entering. We followed the signs and some workers nodded to us that we were in the right place. Yet, there was no one to greet us. Confused, I think, a man took us to the room and left us. The tea party was in the same hall, so we both knew where we were. Yet, the tables were empty. What did we do? We took pictures of the empty room.
Then M.Sawada appeared at the door and was surprised to see us. With him was a small, pretty, woman with a bob cut in “muggle” clothing- Midori. Yumi and M.Sawada talked in Japanese. What I got from the conversation (Yumi’s help) was that we came in the back entrance and everyone is waiting at the main entrance to be let in. M. Sawada was not mad by any account he just directed us to the correct place to wait, smiling and bowing.

Outside a sea of girls (with a few boys) were waiting to go inside. There was girls in over-the-top sweet, classical, bittersweet, goth, simple, pastel, dark, natural hair, wigs, bows, and bonnets. The mix of styles was like looking at a Tumblr feed of the lolitas. Plus to the many styles, people were from many places. Last time there were few girls outside of the French speaking countries, but there were girls from Germany and even Russia!

Claire explained the events in French and English.

Waiting for my ticket to be checked and entering the tea room was not very exciting. Yumi and I, both, were spoiled by our early visit. For the gift, I received tiny pins of the currant popular prints from Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and Alice and the Pirates.

I choose the Black Forest cake with silver on top.

Everyone standing, chatting, and taking pictures. Emilie is posing in the

front.

This pretty German girl looked so cute in pink and her bunny!

Another girl who was cute as pie!

First, Tea and Sweets were served and every chatted and took pictures for a long time.

Midori with her book, Classical Doll.

Second, We were told to return to our seats for Midori’s entrance. She modeled the new Cinderella collection. I love the dress because it is so princess-like but also elegant!

The Cinderella dress’s print up close is stunningly elegant.

I felt like the design of the tea room mirrored the elegant print on the dress.

After she came in and modeled, the Cake made an entrance, and everyone had more sweets. I love this cake. I don’t know what kind of cake it is but it has to be made with French magic.

Midori held my hand, I smiled my super silly, excited smile.

my ticket, signed postcard, and pins

Then Midori held a little contest for her book by Rock-Paper-Scissors (which I lost horribly). And, then she sign the winner’s books and postcard for everyone else. For each person she talked to with the help of Claire, she looked at everyone’s outfit (she liked my little Baby- store ribbons), she would hold everyone’s hand, and smile for a picture. She seemed so calm, nice, and grateful to be with everyone.

This beauty won the best dressed of Alice and the Pirates. She sat at my table, she was from Russia, and she was just stunning!

Finally, the exciting hope of getting free pries by a drawing. Sadly, nothing for me! haha! And, the best prizes to Best Dressed by Midori’s Choice – which I agreed with!

Fin.

PS: Sorry for the TOTAL abuse and lack of posts. I just hate to think about my last days in France… and be stuck in the middle of nowhere again! Maybe after all my French posts, I will be able to find fun things to write about again even if I am back to a boring university student! Till then!

A Dream Come True – Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, Paris’s 5th Anniversary Tea Party

Published Saturday, 3 March 2012 by Sydney Sunny

Once Baby Paris posted on their blog about the annual Anniversary Tea Party, the French lolita world exploded. Everyone was on edge the night of submitting names into the drawing. Then the wait for the winning emails slowing ended. And, my inbox lacked the winning email from Baby. I knew it was a chance, but I was still sad. It was my dream to go to a brand tea party one day. I often sit in front of my computer soaking up the wonderful pictures and video of Baby’s or Angelic Pretty’s tea parties from San Francisco, Paris, and Tokyo. My computer is usually located in the hills of Tennessee, far away from big city meet ups, tea parties, and brand stores. Thus, my chance to go to a special lolita event slipped by in the night.

About a week later, while Marine and I made crepes, Megu, who works at Baby, messaged me on Facebook. She said I forgot to pick up my ticket. I was shocked. Apparently, my email inbox never recieved the winning email from Baby! Megu was a doll, and she kept my ticket safe till I could pick it up. Marine and I both were so excited that one of the crepes burned. Marine and I, both, were going to Baby, the Stars Shine Bright 5th Anniversary Tea Party!

I had about two weeks to plan my special outfit. I wanted to make sure I looked nice and went the extra mile for such a special occasion. I planed many things, but some things did not happen.  Because I a studying abroad, all my special makeup, nail polish, and hair supplies are long away in the USA. So I did the best I could. I put on my makeup the best I knew how, I glued on my fake nails, I placed many bows (4-5) on my head, and I left early Sunday the 19th of February to catch the train into Paris.

Once I arrived in Paris, I went straight away to Baby to buy my ticket! Clair and Megu greeted me in the store. Megu told me to sit down, and she completed my look with simple curls. Here is my outfit for the tea party:

TULIP KARAMI SKIRT
CHESS CRYSTAL RIBBON COMB
FLORA TIGHTS  *H&M
YELLOW TEA PARTY SHOES  *Secret Shop
PARIS’S MACARON SOCKS

**All Baby, the Stars Shine Bright unless stated otherwise. **
My Theme was simple: Spring Sun. Thus, I donned my favorite color combination, yellow and pink!
You can check out my lookbook post.

Other girls arrived dressed from head to toe in Baby, the Stars Shine Bright or Alice and the Pirates ( the dress code). And, I was one of them! I never dreamed to be in the presences of such wonderful people in dreamy dresses, skirts, bows, and petticoats. I met Marine in the the store, and she bought a lovely umbrella. When we got to the street, people saw a group of girls dressed up in their finest. They would stop, admire, and ask questions. I was however wrapped in our joy, excitement, and vanity to care about anyone else.

In a large room beside the tea room.

The Tea Party was held at a big, fancy hotel called “Le Grand Hotel de Paris” which is beside the Opera. The outside looks like the normal central Paris buildings, but hidden inside are chandlers, glided carved decorations, and velvet curtains. I thought it looked very rich and luxurious!

Credit to Marine: Megu greeting the guests. Look how cute she is with her brown and pink outfit!

The events that were unfolded were as a dream.
First, I showed Clair my ticket to confirm my presence at the tea. As I walked to the door with Marine, Megu greeted us with her sweet smile and gave us the traditional “goodie” for the party. This “goodie” was a long key necklace. The key pendent is gorgious with a “B” for “Baby” and wings.
Next, the sweets and teas were served. I got a raspberry tart and had rooibos red tea.  All the while, I conversed the best I could with others, and met some great lolitas.

Credit to Megu: The sweets!

A long period of talking, greetings, and pictures occurred. I met many sweet French lolitas, one from Belgium, another from Switzerland, and a sweet girl from Germany. Marine and I became close to two other lolitas across from us. There is Yumi from Japan, and Stephanie from Canada! We decide to plan another adventure together! (next post)

Credit to Emilie: Emilie (from Swizerland) and I share our favorite color combeation: Yellow and Pink! She has on the Snow Dot JSK, and I, the dress.

My favorite outfits:

FancyMelody and me! I was so excited to met her! I have followed her blog for a long time! She writes about here outfit: here. I hope, I can one day be as detailed!

Credit to Kamihana Shi: Kamihana Shi's outfit was wonderful! Her hair and makeup was marvelous! Here is her detailed post on her hair: here! I think she was one of my favorites!

Credit to Emmachan: Severine was also one of my favorites. She was a pirate mermaid! She had on AatP's mermaid print and a boat with perals in her hair!

Later, the prices were drawn! Ten prizes were given, however I did not win any of the great prizes.
Then, the big Birthday cake was rolled out into the room. All lolitas grabed their cameras to capture the fabulous cake on fire! I got a piece of cake and had to get another. The cake was silk, not a sponge, silk. I also tried the mille-feuille because I am in France – Paris – Tea Party – BABY.

Credit to Megu: The cake!

Lastly, the best outfit awards were given out for Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and Alice and the Pirates. The awards were a whole outfit! My new friend, Stephanie, won the Baby outfit award!

Credit to Megu: Baby's Winner!

Soon, I found myself barely making the 6 train back to Amiens as if it was all a dream. Was it a dream? No, the memories and my friends will reassure my dream did come true. I dreamed so much to go to such a event, and now I have. The best thing from going was not the cake, not the prizes, not the tea, not the hotel, not my outfit, but the self worth from feeling beautiful and the friends I made.
And also, I cannot help buy enjoy the feeling of beauty. To be surrounded by others who have the same love of style as you is explainable. Everyone had different styles, different hair, some very fancy over the top, some natural, some bright, some dark – and everyone beautiful. We understood each other’s styles!
It was a dream come true…. and more dreams to come…

I returned home on the train with my new necklace and the first episode of Downton Abbey (FREE on iTunes).
